House of internationals

Culturally attuned psychotherapy and psychological safety for expats, international residents, and Danes abroad

We have lived abroad for over 20 years, and we know firsthand what it’s like to feel out of place in a new culture—both as a family and as professionals. Sometimes, access to quality therapy that truly understands your experiences can be hard to find. At the same time, we have worked with internationals in Denmark who have struggled to find therapy that feels familiar, safe, and respectful of their background and culture.

Our mission is simple:

To create a safe space for people living between cultures who seek support in finding peace, balance, and mental well-being. We believe that everyone deserves to be met with respect and understanding—as individuals and as part of a larger community.

Why we are promoting cultural understanding in psychotherapy

House of Internationals was founded based on our own experiences and values. We know how important it is to feel seen and understood when life feels overwhelming. That’s why we offer therapy and support tailored to your unique experiences, values, and goals.

  • For expats and international residents:
We help you navigate the challenges that come with moving to a new country, including identity struggles, cultural differences, and even loneliness.
  • For Danes living abroad:
We provide support for those longing for a sense of belonging while building a life away from home.
  • For families and organizations:
We believe that well-being starts with relationships—within families, workplaces, and communities. We work with both individuals and professionals seeking to enhance psychological safety in their environment.

Meet the founders of House of Internationals

We are Ann-Helene and Jakob, and we are passionate about creating space for what truly matters—for you, your family, or your organization. With backgrounds in psychotherapy, organizational psychology, and anthropology, we bring both scientific expertise and personal experience into our work.

Jakob Jakobsen has worked with people across continents, from child soldiers in Africa to families in Denmark. With a background in anthropology and psychology, he specializes in helping individuals reconnect with their inner strengths and values. He is situated in Copenhagen.

Ann-Helene is a psychotherapist and educator who has helped individuals and organizations navigate emotional and relational challenges across cultures. She is based in her clinic in the centre of Aarhus, and she also travel to do presentations and workshops.

Our approach

We base our work on three key principles:

  • Respect for your unique story – No two people are the same, which is why we tailor therapy to your individual needs.
  • Compassion and Empathy – We meet you at eye level and help you see yourself with kindness and understanding.
  • Evidence-Based Methods – We apply scientifically supported approaches such as Narrative Therapy, ACT, and Mindfulness, ensuring that you receive the best possible support.

A World with psychological safety

At House of Internationals, we believe that mental well-being is not just an individual journey—it’s a shared responsibility. We want to contribute to a world where people meet each other with curiosity, openness, and respect—across cultures and backgrounds.
